Sony needs to stop being the little kid on the playground. If you have a bag of chips then somebody will ask for one. Sony is essentially trying to stop a worldwide phenomenon that has been going on for decades. Next sony will urge people to stop buying cameras cause they are used to film movies. Chips have always been around and not many people mod thier machines so they dont loose much. Oh and apple is trying to shutdown youtubr because it has easy step by step tutorials on how to get adobe w/e for free in under 5 minutes. Xbox's motto is way better "its going to happen anyway"

that ruling can not be over turned as it is the highest court in australia's legal system. and moding playstaion should be legal because it is unfair for australian consumers to have to pay a higer price than other countries just because sony says so.

I seriously doubt that other countries will pass similar legislation. I also doubt that this ruling will stay forever, Sony's probably already launched an appeal against the High Court's decision.

I can't understand how the High Court could find that mod chips don't breach copyright laws. Mod chips would enable the Playstation 2 to play pirated video games, which IS illegal. It's such a big loop hole, people would lie and say that they're getting their PS2 mod chipped so they can play US games when in reality, they would be playing pirated games from Hong Kong.

I guess we'll have to wait another 4 years to find out the final verdict.
