First internal Blu-ray drive available in January 2006
The format war between HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc appears to be gathering momentum, with long-time Blu-ray exclusive supporter Hewlett-Packard recently announcing it will also be supporting rival HD DVD format.
The BDR-101A: Pioneer’s first internal Blu-ray disc writer
The Sony-backed Blu-ray format, however, will undoubtedly receive a huge boost when the Playstation 3 launches in Spring 2006 with a Blu-ray drive included. The race to be the first next-gen DVD player in the living room has now extended to the computer room, with Pioneer announcing that it has developed the first internal BD/DVD writer for PCs capable of reading and writing both single and double layer Blu-ray discs.
The new Pioneer BDR-101A drive will be available from January 2006 - read more at BluReporter.com.
