Official Playstation 3 release date: Beginning of November

It’s official! According to the morning edition of Japanese news paper Nikkei, Sony has now officially announced that the PS3 release date would be in the beginning of November. The reason for this delay was “format adjustments” concerning the next generation DVD format, as the Playstation 3 comes with a built-in Blu-ray drive.
The news comes at the same time as the “PS Business Briefing 2006 March” which may reveal further PS3 launch details.
The PS3 console is an important element in the growth strategy of the SONY group, and this delay is likely to impact on Sony’s growth as well as the growth of the entire video game industry.
Many insider sources previously stated that a Spring 2006 release is unlikely, because the final specifications of the Blu-ray format had not been agreed upon by all involved parties, in particular pertaining to Blu-ray’s digital rights management (DRM) solution of AACS.
