Playstation 3 price revealed in Europe
Sony’s Playstation 3 will be priced between €499 and €599 in Europe when the console is released sometime this November. The price was let slip by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Vice President, George Fornay, in an interview on French radio.
Fornay, also the President of SCE France, acknowledged that the price may seem steep, but moved to point out that the PS3 was an entertainment package, not just a gaming console.
He said the Playstation 3 was relatively inexpensive considering the features it is equipped with, including the new high-definition DVD format, Blu-ray, PlayFrance has reported.
The Playstation 3 price has been the source of much speculation over previous months, with analysts predictions ranging from $399 to $700.
While the PS3 price range may have been announced for Europe, it still leaves gamers from the other major territories guessing over how much they will have to pay.
A straight money conversion from Euros to US dollars indicates that the Playstation 3 cost would range from around $612 – $735.
This, however, is not necessarily an accurate estimate, with prices often changing between the different territories.
Microsoft proved this with the Xbox 360, which debuted in Europe for €399 and in the United States for $399.
Even if Sony followed a similar route to Microsoft, the Playstation 3 would still be the most expensive next-generation console on the market by a significant margin. Nintendo’s Revolution is expected to cost less than $300.
More details about the Playstation 3 price are expected to be released at the E3 conference in May.
