Sony announces Playstation 3 release data and price

The Playstation 3 will launch in North America on November 17 from $499, Sony announced. At its pre-E3 press conference, Sony revealed that the PS3 will be available in two different configurations, one with a 20 GB hard drive and the other a 60 GB HD.
As for the price of the Playstation 3 - the 20 GB version will go on sale for $499, while the 60 GB version will be available for $599.
The Playstation 3 is scheduled for release in Japan on November 11 for 59,800 yen and open ended for retailers to decide for the 20 GB and 60 GB configurations respectively.
Europe and Australasia are to share the launch date of November 17 with North America. The 20 GB PS3 will retail for 499 euros and the 60 GB version for 599 euros.

n Australia, the PS3 console sporting the 20 gigabyte hard drive will cost AUD $799 and the one with the 60 gigabyte drive will cost AUD $999.
From the press conference, IGN reports that Sony is aiming to ship 2 million Playstation 3 units for the launch window, another 2 million by the end of the year and a further 2 million by March 31.
