there honestly is no way. purely becuase no one will buy a stand alone player from the channel if the ps3 is $399. they have to raise the price in order to avoid channel conflict.

as an observer, i have to say, it’s damn funny what sony has done to screw the pooch. they won’t even be able to sell their own stand alone player instead of the ps3. with all the hype, they can’t even back down. their only options are to:

a) screw the channel, including themselves by pricing the ps3 too low. thus securing hd-dvd as the new format because no one will make blu-ray players because of the ps3.

or

b) raise the price of the ps3 to $800 at a minimum to avoid channel conflict and still be able to sell their own stand alone based on “quality.”
