it has to be cheaper. that’s their problem. that’s why they are putting it off. if they make it cheaper, they run into channel conflict. they’d have to price it at around $800 for it to avoid pissing off other stand alone manufacturers (which is what sony wants to avoid seeing as they see royalties for the likes of pioneer including blu-ray technology in their products), but at that price, they are going to sell a less fewer ps3’s. an order of magnitude fewer. why buy a ps3 when you can buy almost 3 xbox 360s? because, by the time the ps3 is out, the 360 will hit it’s first price drop.

not to mention the revolution. nintendo always has value pricing.

and, of course prices are going to drop over time. the problem there is it’s not just blu-ray. it’s the whole segment. hd-dvd will go down. 360’s will go down. everything will. blu-ray will always be more expensive.
