Wow! Half of you read at a 3rd grade level. Ken is saying that he built in a redundancy. If one SPE fails, then no worries because there’s an extra one just in case. But understand, that’s only IF one fails (still a high probability of failure). The system is designed to run with 7 SPE’s not 8, so I don’t suggest hacking it. Let me say it again, number 8 is an extra just in case. Here’s an example now: Let’s say your Sony discman needs 2 AA batteries, but you go to the store and buy a pack of 4 because that’s all you can find. You slide those 2 AA’s in and voila! But a day later you realize that the charge is really low. So you replace the fault battery with another from the pack. Full power. It would seem that one battery had lost it’s charge pretty quickly. It was a good thing you bought that pack of 4 instead of having to go to the store again. It’s the same idea, basically. It would seem though that if 2 SPE’s fail, you’ve got a problem.
I think it’s a great idea. The benefits are less returns and warranty issues. I think that increases the consumers satisfaction level as well.
